Life is Just a Tire Swing

Its been awhile since I have posted a new blog. I have had a busy, exciting and great July so far. We hosted a great 4th of July bonfire and fireworks extravaganza; almost all of our favorite people attended. We believe there is nothing better than a great night with our best friends and this was definitely one of them! I stayed up all night because I had to meet my Mom at the airport at 4:30am for our flight to Key West. We flew into Miami and then rented a convertible and drove down A1A for 3 days in the Keys. It was a great mother daughter trip! I could write 2 or 3 blogs on that trip alone. If you love an open-minded, laid back, Caribbean-feel kind of vacation then pack your bags and head to the Keys!

And of course we went to the circus in Riverbend. I just love Jimmy Buffett! I so wish he was my Dad. Myself, Justin, Jake and Jamie arrived early for a full day of tailgating and Mom joined us around 6. Since Justin had never been to a show, I thought it would be more fun to sit in the lawn. Well.....I'm just old! And completely agree with my cousin, Kerry, NEVER AGAIN! The last 3 shows I sat in the pavillion and I guess I'm just spoiled. And oh by the way, did I mention where my Mom's seat was? The front row!!! I used her ticket for one song and it was AWESOME!!! Jimmy is just too cool! So even though the lawn was too crowded and I couldn't hear a few of my very favorites (I almost got Justin into a fight with a drunk college kid because he wouldn't shut up so I could hear 'Gods Own Drunk'...sorry baby!), we all still had a wonderful time! The fact is life is just too short and too sweet to ever have a bad time at JIMMY!

FINS UP!!! That smile, I hope I'm that cool at 61! I know my Mom will be!

Wishing I was 21....

Well we went to see Corey Smith at Bogarts in Cincy and all in all had a wonderful time. Corey always puts on a good show and it was cool J got to see him for the first time. Now for my rant, we saw him at Bogarts and that is an "all ages" venue. Well, back in my day.....long, long ago, all ages meant that you had to be 18 to get in and 21 to drink. NOT the case any longer. At Bogarts anyone could get in....any age!!!

We were standing in line slowly realizing that most of these kids were not 18! We had about 20 high schoolers behind us and as the line started to grow longer, it became very apparent we were a minority....we were OLD!!! As we got to the door, a younger girl and her boyfriend asked if they could kind of go in with us because they had fake id's and thought if they entered with someone older they had a better chance of sliding them through.....Dear God, would they think I was this child's parent? Surely not...no, just her older sister, right??? Anyway the fake ID worked and the little girl thanked me and my Mom and told us she would buy us shots later...shots?? Ok, chick whatever! Now as the night progressed she kept passing us, but never did buy us those shots (not that we wanted them, but its just the principle.)

The show itself was pretty good. We stayed off to the side to not get trampled on by the children. It was entertaining to listen to them sing along to songs about drinking, partying, aging and trying to get your life together......they did sing with a lot of heart about life experiences they have yet to endure! You do have to give them credit for that! I came to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe I am getting old. The teenagers got on my nerves and I felt the need to reprimand a few of them and well.... I did! I'm sure I was called a few choice words, but they needed to learn concert and bar room etiquette. I mean, if you are going into establishments with adults then you need to know how to "pretend" like you maybe have a small amount of intelligence and social skills. Now, in a few weeks at Buffett I will not feel OLD or out of place because no rules apply at Jimmy. That is the one day of the year when everyone gets to act like a kid and just have fun...maybe I'm not old, maybe I'm just wiser.

As Corey says:
now i'm only 26, feelin' more like 43
my hairline's disappearing and i never get id'd
my clothes are out of fashion, no i'm not cool anymore
in the bed by 10 o'clock each night and up at half past 4
still i go down to that college town when the Bulldogs play at home
i drink keg beer from a trash can 'til the whole damn thing is gone
then i look at all those college girls, so innocent and young
and i just check 'em out and say
"damn! i wish i was 21"

First Time

I recently discovered a few of my cousins are blogging on this site and have gotten great enjoyment keeping up with their lives across the miles; therefore I've decided to give this blogging thing a shot. I have no idea where to begin so I will probably babble for the first few until I have something to rant about.

My boyfriend, Justin, works in the Information Technology field and I just told him I was doing a blog and he actually called me an "uber geek". Now remember this is from a guy who sits at his computer, that has 4 (yes, that is correct and not a typo) flat screen monitors, a special quick key pad, a lighted keyboard and plays Battlefield 2142 with a pilot-like headset on so he can talk to other "squad members" as they "fight" in a futuristic war. But, I'm the geek!

I spent the afternoon with my best friend and her little boy Charlie (22 months). He is an amazingly smart little boy who gives me great enjoyment. When he calls me Sissy my heart just melts. Well we went to the pool and to put it lightly I'm exhausted! As most of you know toddlers love the word "again" and we did lots of assisted "jumps" into the pool again and again. If I did that every day I would probably be able to get my "hammy" (a Mamal word) arms in shape!

Anyway we are headed to Cincinnati tomorrow to see Corey Smith at Bogarts. He is one of my favorite artists and I can't wait to see him in concert again! This will be J's first time seeing him so it ought to be lots of fun. And in only a few more weeks we will be back for Buffett! I love summer. Well this is it for the first blog. Hopefully they will get more entertaining, but maybe not.
